- How to conduct hearing protection fit testing using common fit testing systems (e.g., objective and subjective methods).

Award / Qualification
On successful completion, participants will receive a KINNECT Training Certificate of Completion for the Hearing Protection Fit Testing Course.
This is a non-accredited course (no nationally recognised unit of competency is issued), designed to build practical workplace capability to:
- fit and coach correct earplug insertion
- conduct hearing protection fit testing using common systems
- interpret results (including PAR where applicable)
- complete fit test documentation and reports suitable for WHS record keeping

Entry Requirements
There are no formal prerequisites for this course.
Participants should:
- Be comfortable working in a practical environment and following step-by-step procedures
- Have basic computer/tablet skills (to operate fit testing software and save results)
- Be able to communicate clear instructions to workers during fitting and testing
- Be able to read and record results accurately for reporting and WHS record keeping
Recommended (but not required):
- Familiarity with your workplace’s noise management / hearing conservation program
- Experience using PPE and supervising work in noise-exposed areas

PAR (Personal Attenuation Rating) is a measure of the noise reduction achieved by an individual during fit testing. PAR results help you identify whether a worker is getting adequate protection, and whether they need coaching, a different size, or a different earplug style to improve fit and comfort.
What happens if someone fails an earplug fit test?
A “fail” is treated as a coaching opportunity, not a punishment. The typical next steps are to re-fit the earplug using correct technique, re-test, and if needed trial a different type/size of hearing protection. The goal is to find a solution that delivers reliable protection for that person.
