A practical webinar on identifying psychosocial barriers early and supporting meaningful return-to-work outcomes.
The CLEAR Framework
Most Return to Work Coordinators know the legislation. Few feel confident having the conversations that actually keep a recovery on track. This session introduces the CLEAR framework — a practical way to recognise psychosocial risk early, and respond before it derails a return-to-work plan.
RTW Coordinators complete the training. The hard part starts after.
Once the legislative modules are done, most coordinators can recite the obligations. What the training rarely covers is what to actually say, to whom, and when — and how to tell a psychosocial barrier apart from a straightforward delay.
“How do I have these conversations?”
“How do I influence a supervisor I don’t manage?”
“How do I recognise a psychosocial barrier early?”
“How do I keep a plan on track once it stalls?”
Five levers, not fifty hazards
A coordinator can’t eliminate every psychosocial hazard in an organisation — they usually don’t have that authority. But they can influence five things, every day, regardless of their seniority.
- Communication and consultation
- The immediate supervisor
- The work environment a person returns to
- The design of suitable duties
- The review process over time
How CLEAR maps to psychosocial hazards
Each letter is a lever a coordinator can pull, mapped directly to the psychosocial hazards named in the Code of Practice — hover or tab through each row to see it switch on.

CLEAR translates psychosocial hazards and legislative process into practical conversations, leadership actions and workplace decisions — the things a coordinator can actually reach.
How CLEAR maps to psychosocial hazards
| CLEAR Element | Hazards Addressed | What Coordinators Learn | Outcome |
|---|---|---|---|
| C – Communication & Consultation |
|
How to establish trust early, ask better questions, involve the worker, engage supervisors, and build a shared understanding of the return-to-work plan. | Better engagement. Earlier identification of barriers. Greater worker ownership. |
| L – Leader (Supervisor) Support |
|
Many RTW plans succeed or fail because of the immediate supervisor. This module builds the supervisor’s role clarity, expectations and confidence. | A supervisor who knows exactly what to say and do—not one working from instinct. |
| E – Environment & Culture |
|
How to assess what a person is actually returning to—not just whether they can perform the duties, but the workplace around them. | “What is this person actually returning to?” replaces “Can they perform these duties?” |
| A – Assignment Clarity |
|
How to build meaningful duties through clear expectations, appropriate workload, autonomy, capability and purpose. | One of the strongest predictors of a sustainable return to work. |
| R – Review & Response |
|
How to review regularly, recognise early warning signs, and adapt the plan before recovery stalls. | Recovery keeps moving instead of quietly losing momentum. |
|
Most Psychosocial Training Asks
“Have you considered these hazards?”
|
CLEAR Asks
“How do these hazards influence this person’s recovery—and what conversation should happen next?”

Questions before you register
Do I need to be a qualified RTW Coordinator to attend?
No. The session is built for anyone holding a return-to-work plan together — coordinators, supervisors, HR and WHS professionals. No prior qualification is assumed. If you’re already a qualified RRTWC, the CLEAR framework gives you a practical structure for the conversations your legislative training didn’t cover.
What do I need to join?
A computer or tablet with a stable internet connection, and speakers or headphones. We’ll email your Teams webinar link before the session. No software purchase is required. A microphone and camera are optional — you’re welcome to listen in and use the chat to ask questions.
Is this a substitute for RRTWC-approved training?
No. This is professional development, not accredited or regulator-approved Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator training. It assumes you’ve either completed that training or work alongside someone who has. If you need approved RRTWC training, call us on 1300 591 548 and we’ll point you to the right course.
Will I receive a recording if I can't attend live?
Yes. Everyone who registers receives the recording, whether or not you attend live. It’s sent after the session so you can watch at a time that suits you, or revisit the CLEAR framework later. Registering purely for the recording is entirely reasonable.
How much does it cost to attend?
$49 per person, including the recording and any supporting materials. Booking for multiple people from the same organisation is the same rate — select the multiple-persons option at checkout. Registration is through our secure booking system and places are limited.
